What’s the Difference between a 2-phase and a 3-phase centrifuge?

At the CIPPE exhibition, GN had shown two centrifuges: A big bowl centrifuge and a 3 phase centrifuge. What’s the difference?

Centrifuges are machines that use centrifugal force to separate solids from liquids. The centrifugal force is created by spinning the centrifuge at high speed. The faster the centrifuge spins, the stronger the centrifugal force.

The solids in a slurry are denser than the liquids, so they are pulled to the outside of the centrifuge bowl by the centrifugal force. The liquids, on the other hand, are less dense than the solids, so they are pulled to the center of the centrifuge bowl.

The solids and liquids are then separated by a series of baffles in the centrifuge bowl. The solids are discharged from the centrifuge at the bottom of the bowl, and the liquids are discharged from the centrifuge at the top of the bowl.

The rotating speed of the centrifuge is a major factor in how effectively it can separate solids from liquids. The faster the centrifuge spins, the stronger the centrifugal force, and the more effective the centrifuge will be at separating solids from liquids.

However, it is important to note that rotating speed is not the only factor that affects the performance of a centrifuge. The density of the solids, the viscosity of the liquid, and the design of the centrifuge also play a role.

Centrifuges are essential tools for the mud system in solids control and waste management.

If you are looking for a way to remove solids from liquids, a centrifuge may be the right solution for you. For more details, please also contact me at samuel@gnsolidscontrol.co

GN Hex Shaker Screens

Recently, I received an email about hex shaker screens. I thought it would be helpful to share some information about these screens with you.

What is a hex shaker screen?

A hex shaker screen is a type of screen that is used in shale shakers. Shale shakers are pieces of equipment used in the oil and gas industry to remove solids from drilling fluid. The shaker consists of a series of screens that are vibrated to create a centrifugal force that throws the solids out of the fluid. Hex shaker screens are made of a hexagonal mesh that is designed to trap solids more effectively than traditional square mesh screens.

Why use hex shaker screens?

There are several benefits to using hex shaker screens in shale shakers. First, they are more effective at trapping solids than traditional square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh creates a larger surface area for the solids to adhere to. Second, hex shaker screens are less likely to clog than square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh allows the fluid to flow more freely through the screen. Third, hex shaker screens are more durable than square mesh screens. This is because the hexagonal shape of the mesh is less likely to tear or warp.

What are the advantages of GN hex screens?

  • Larger usable area: GN hex screens have a usable area that is 10-20% larger than the metal frames of OEM screens.
  • Rust-resistant: Compared with OEM screens, GN hex screens are made with composite frames that are resistant to rust, making them ideal for long-term storage.
  • High-quality fiberglass: The composite frames of GN hex screens are made with high-quality fiberglass, which improves the plastic quality and makes the screens resistant to temperatures up to 140°C.

What are the applications of hex shaker screens?

Hex shaker screens can be used in a variety of applications in the oil and gas industry. They are commonly used in shale shakers, but they can also be used in other types of equipment, such as mud cleaners and desanders/desilters. Hex shaker screens are also used in other industries, such as the mining and water treatment industries.

Where to buy GN hex shaker screens?

Agitators and Centrifugal Pumps: The Essential Components of a Mud Tank System

Mud Cleaning Systems are an essential part of any drilling operation. They are used to store and circulate drilling mud, which is a fluid that is used to lubricate and cool the drill bit, remove cuttings from the borehole, and prevent the borehole from collapsing.

Agitators and centrifugal pumps are two of the most important components of a mud tank system. Agitators are used to mix and circulate the drilling mud, while centrifugal pumps are used to move the mud from the tank to the drill bit.

Agitators

mud agitator2Agitators are typically powered by electric motors and have a rotating shaft with blades or paddles that are submerged in the mud. The agitator blades or paddles create turbulence in the mud, which helps to keep the solids suspended and prevents them from settling into the bottom of the tank.

There are two main types of agitators: vertical and horizontal. Vertical agitators are mounted on the side of the mud tank and have a shaft that

extends vertically into the mud. Horizontal agitators are mounted on the bottom of the mud tank and have a shaft that extends horizontally across the tank. GN agitators are Vertical agitators.

The type of agitator that is best for a particular mud tank system will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the tank, the type of drilling mud being used, and the desired level of mixing.

Centrifugal Pumps

gn centrifugal pump 5gn centrifugal pump 6Centrifugal pumps are used to circulate drilling mud from the mud tank to the drill bit. They are typically powered by electric motors and have a rotating impeller that is housed in a casing. The impeller spins at high speed, which creates a centrifugal force that forces the mud to flow through the casing and out of the pump.

Centrifugal pumps are available in a variety of sizes and flow rates. The size and flow rate of the pump that is best for a particular mud tank system will depend on the size of the tank, the type of drilling mud being used, and the desired flow rate.

Conclusion

Agitators and centrifugal pumps are essential components of any mud tank system. If you are interested, please send me an email to samuel@gnsolidscontrol.co,  you can help to ensure that your mud tank system operates properly and safely.

GN Vertical Cuttings Dryer: A Solids Control Solution for OBM and SBM Waste

The GN Vertical Cuttings Dryer (VCD) is a solids control equipment specially designed to treat OBM and SBM waste. It uses centrifugal force to dry drilled solids in oil or synthetic base fluids. The VCD can reduce the moisture content of cuttings to below 5%, which helps to reduce waste volume and meet environmental objectives.

The VCD is typically used in conjunction with a decanting centrifuge. The centrifuge further reduces the moisture content of the recovered mud, making it easier to transport and dispose of.

Most clients choose to mount the VCD and centrifuge on a telescopic skid. This allows the equipment to be easily moved and transported. The recovered solid mud from the centrifuge can drop into the tanks below, without requiring a transfer pump.

The VCD is fed with a 4kW screw pump. The centrifuge is fed with a 7.5kW screw pump. Both pumps are made by the German company NETZSCH. The major components of the pumps are made in Germany and assembled in China.

We can provide you with VCD and other equipment as options. If you have any questions and want to know more details please send me an email: samuel@gnsolidscontro.co

These days I finished several quotations about API screens for UAE customers!

Shaker screen mesh is a type of screen that uses vibration to separate mud. It is made of a woven wire mesh that is stretched over a frame. The mesh is vibrated by an electric motor on the shale shakers, which causes the materials to move across the screen. The materials are separated by their size, with the smaller materials passing through the mesh and the larger materials being retained on the screen.

Vibrating screen mesh is used in a variety of industries, including mining, quarrying, and recycling. It is also used in the food and beverage industry to separate solids from liquids.

There are many different types of vibrating screen mesh, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. This time we are talking about the mud recycling meshes: woven wire meshes.

The choice of vibrating screen mesh depends on the specific application. For example, woven wire mesh is often used in applications where the materials are not very abrasive. It usually on the second or third shakers in a mud system.

These days I had finished a few quotations about these Composite Frame Flat screens.

If you are a buyer from UAE, and you work for a trading company providing equipment for drilling projects, I would recommend that you consider using GN API shaker screen mesh in your projects. Our screen mesh is a reliable and efficient way to separate materials, and it can help you to improve the quality of your drilling projects.

The Installation of GN Mud Agitator (F)

GN Mud Agitator plays a very important role in solids control.  To keep both the mud uniform and the suspension of drilling mud, the mud agitator is used to agitate the mud consecutively and reliably. This agitator agitates the mud to make cuttings, silt, and sand pass the solids control system without being precipitated onto the tank bottom.

When installing the GN Mud Agitator (F), it should be lifted horizontally and placed smoothly in the position to be installed.

During installation, the agitator should be hoisted horizontally and placed stably at the position to be installed, and then the bottom plate should be fixed on the pad (welded on the tank surface) with an M16×50 bolt assembly.

First of all, it is necessary to check that the four pads of the fixed agitator are in a relatively horizontal position and that the error is within ±1mm, to ensure the normal operation of the equipment. If there is a centralizing sleeve, the centralizing sleeve must be perpendicular to the center of the mounting base.

Agitator Mounting Plate

The installation location needs to be determined in advance. Choose the installation location to leave the gap between the impeller and the tank wall. Use a spirit level to maintain the absolute level of the board. Use the adjusting pads to maintain the level and mark the pad’s position.

Stabilizer

All GN agitators are equipped with stabilizers. The total height of the stabilizer is 200mm, install the stabilizer as follows:

The installation of the stabilizer is as follows:

  1. Put a vertical line from the center hole of the mounting base plate, and the point of contact with the tank bottom is the center point of the stabilizer
  2. After determining the installation position of the stabilizer according to the center point, weld the stabilizer sleeve to the bottom of the tank.

3.1.3 Shaft Assembly

After installing the tank bottom stabilizer, put the shaft in the tank for assembly.

  1. Put the shaft into the tank and keep the shaft upright when assembling the impeller and the shaft.
  2. Install the impeller on the mixing shaft.
  3. Put the bottom of the mixing shaft into the welded stabilizer sleeve.
  4. Connect and fasten the rigid coupling reducer end and the mixing shaft end with bolts. At this time, adjust the position of the stabilizer sleeve to make the mixing shaft vertical, and ensure that the mixing shaft rotates normally, and ensure that the stabilizer sleeve will not affect the mixing shaft rotation; otherwise, it will cause the yaw of the impeller shaft, aggravate the wear of the reducer or damage the bearing.
  5. Install the impeller and fix the impeller with bolts.
  6. When the agitator shaft is shipped from the factory, the impeller mounting holes are made according to the tank height offered by the customer.
  7. Spread a thin layer of butter on the bolt and screw it onto the mixing shaft and impeller.
  8. Fix the impeller in the corresponding position on the shaft.
  9. Tighten the bolts gradually and sequentially.
  10. If you need to install the upper impeller, the steps are the same

Motor and Gearbox Assembly and Installation

GN  Solids Control will install the motor and gearbox before delivery.  Clients can install or disassemble as needed. For details, please refer motor/gearbox user manual. Gearbox and Motor Installation drawing please refer figure below.

Gearbox Coupling and Impeller Connection

  1. Align the shaft so that the mixing shaft and the driving shaft coupling are completely connected.
  2. Make sure there is no gap in the outer flange of the coupling. No gap means no connection bias.
  3. Align the coupling, put in and tighten the bolts, and adjust well.
